Abdul Qadir Indori’s journey reminds Pullela Gopichand of his own on BYJU’S Young Genius Season 2

With a mission to discover child prodigies with exceptional talent, BYJU’S Young Genius this week will see 13-year-old Para Swimmer Abdul Qadir Indori from Ratlam share his inspiring journey on the show. The episode will witness National coach Pullela Gopichand making an appearance as a guest. Among many gratifying moments, what caught everyone’s attention is Pullela Gopichand sharing his mother’s support in his journey.

Abdul has numerous national accolades to his credit and has won 3 gold medals at National Para-Swimming Championship off recently. The para swimmer talked about a difficult phase that he went through in 2014 after he met with an accident in which he had to be hospitalized for 3 months due to an electric current and lost both his hands. Abdul further went on saying after the incident he was left disturbed, but it was his mother who supported and encouraged him to take up swimming.

Listening to Abdul’s story everyone present on set along with Gopichand too was visibly moved and got emotional. The National coach shared how his parents also played an important role in what he is today. He shared how his mother used to walk for long distances rather than buying a bus ticket to save Rs 2 so that she could purchase a shuttle for him.

Sharing his views Gopichand said, “I think all mothers are the same. Looking at Abdul and how his mother supports him with the sport reminds me of my mother. My mother too supported me in my decision to take up badminton against all odds and made endless sacrifices to support me. It was her desire that pushed me.”
