Vineesha Arora Sarin made her debut as a digital filmmaker with “Come Back To Me” (CBTM). The filmmaker is based in L.A. with her husband and popular TV actor Amit Sarin. She says the short film is her love letter to humanity.
It is based in Banaras, which she visited earlier this year. She says she was in awe of the city and that made her capture all the emotions in her lens.
“Come Back to Me’ is a short film. It was just a bunch of photos I had taken while I was in Banaras earlier this year. Those old, ancient and powerful ghats of Banaras, the simplicity of life around it, the narrow lane with alluring smells of puri and sweet stalls, those overwhelming temples, where else could you witness life and death at the same time. The footage invoked a strong sense of message in me. I wrote it, edited the footage according to the message, and it became my love letter to humanity, that’s it,” she said.
“I wrote the voice over and narration after taking all the footage as I had this urgent message that I wanted to share and it was just shouting back at me to share it with the rest of the world. I have been itching to direct something and this was what I wanted to start with,” Vineesha added.
Talking about her love for Banaras and what made her make the film, she said, “The city itself prompted me, it is simply spell-binding, along with all the hustle bustle there is a quite there, that’s so pulling and attractive. I have been introduced to it by my husband Amit, as he is a native there. I can’t express in words what I feel when I am there but I love visiting it and it’s one of my favourite places in the world. Banaras is a filmmaker’s paradise, wherever you hold a camera, there’s a beautiful story waiting to be told. I was simply trying to capture all these emotions in my lens.I just tried to capture the simplicity against the overwhelming heritage the city is bestowed with”.
She says she has received a lot of encouraging response from film festivals for her film and added, “It’s been accepted at several film festivals and I have already won two awards for it, so it’s really encouraging. It’s just so encouraging for Indie filmmakers like us who are just trying to put our voice out there.”
She revealed that meeting her idol Al Pacino changed her whole direction towards life and she knew she wanted to create stories.
“I met my idol Al Pacino in New York, and this changed my life’s direction and I knew what I had to do. I wanted to create stories that was my true calling, after writing and rewriting my project, the End of Karma I just had to make it, who else was going to make a project that you wrote,” Vineesha said.
“So I told my partner in crime that I need to make this story even if it is the only thing I make. And that’s how our journey as co-producers began and it’s just so lovely to have that kind of belief and relationship and the trust in your partner who knows your dream, who knows you so well and who is so supportive,” she added.
What inspired her to become a producer? She said, “My inspiration behind becoming a producer has always been my passion story “The End of Karma”, and I am finally in Hollywood producing great stories, along with Amit, and it’s been our dream to do so. Most of our stories have these beautiful messages, like ‘Tiger Heart’ speaks about poaching of tigers and is about their conservation. So, I like to make these cause oriented stories and luckily we both share the same vision in doing so, and we hope to succeed.”
Vineesha signed off after sharing her mantra which is “just to keep creating, no matter the hat you wear.”
