Rohit Bakshi Discusses the Entertainment Industry’s Role in Building a Progressive India

On the occasion of India’s Independence, actor Rohit Bakshi who is currently seen in the popular TV show Anupamaa, shared his thoughts on the entertainment industry’s pivotal role in shaping a developed and progressive society.

“As India strives towards becoming a ‘Viksit Bharat,’ the entertainment industry has a significant responsibility. As actors and creators, we have the ability to influence and inspire millions. Films, TV shows, and web series are not just about entertainment; they’re about storytelling that can drive change. Through compelling narratives, we can address important social issues, break stereotypes, and promote progressive thinking. By portraying strong, diverse characters and socially relevant themes, we contribute to building a more aware, inclusive, and forward-thinking society,” Rohit stated.

When asked about Indian cinema and television’s contribution to the nation’s journey towards development and growth, Rohit emphasized the power of visual storytelling in reflecting and shaping society. “Indian cinema and television can significantly contribute to our nation’s journey towards development and growth by mirroring the society we live in and the one we aspire to build. Films like Dangal have played a crucial role in inspiring many Indians to take up sports, especially young girls, by highlighting women’s empowerment and the importance of physical fitness. Similarly, movies like Chak De! India have encouraged interest in hockey and teamwork. These films, along with many others, have not only sparked conversations but also led to real-life changes and increased participation in various fields. Moreover, by showcasing diverse cultures and traditions, we foster a sense of unity and pride in our rich heritage,” he explained.

Reflecting on what independence means to him personally, Rohit shared, “Living in India, I feel truly independent because of the freedom to pursue my dreams and express myself creatively. Being an actor, I have the liberty to choose roles that challenge me and reflect my beliefs.”
