Rohitashv Gour: Being part of a daily soap means constant work and a steady income

Countering the perception that showbiz can be highly unpredictable in terms of work and payment, actor Rohitashv Gour, says that being part of a daily soap solves all these problems. The actor, who plays the role of Tiwariji in Binaiferr and Sanjay Kohli’s show Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, adds that a daily soap provides regular work and income as well.

“Being part of a daily soap means constant work and a steady income. However, doing the same type of shoot every day can get boring for an actor. Over time, they might feel their creativity is stifled and wonder why they’re doing it. But then, they get used to the monthly paychecks, which can be quite substantial. This steady income can lead to a comfortable lifestyle, like buying cars or houses, but it also brings additional responsibilities. Despite the challenges that come with daily soaps, the allure of consistent work and good pay can sometimes lead to a bit of temptation,” he says.

However, he adds that many actors don’t like to be associated with TV. “It’s puzzling why some actors dislike being labelled as TV actors. Many big-name actors, like Amitabh Bachchan, have worked in television. After all, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan have also ventured into TV. However, actors are actors, whether they work in films, ads, documentaries, web series, or cinema. The label of ‘TV actor’ seems arbitrary and troubling, as it shouldn’t define an actor’s worth or talent,” he says.

Ask him what is the best part about working on TV, and he says, “Working in TV can be enjoyable, especially if you’re involved in comedy or episodic structures where stories change frequently. In our show, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, we present a new story every five episodes, which keeps things fresh and gives us different situations to work with. It’s exciting because we’re doing something new every day. This episodic format adds variety to our work, unlike typical daily soaps where the work might feel repetitive. So, the best part for me is that we get to work on different stories, which keeps things interesting. Otherwise, it can feel like any other job, just in a setting where people watch you and you earn well.”
