Every year the 9th of February is celebrated as Pizza Day worldwide. Pizza is undoubtedly one of the most loved dishes across the country and globally. Giving a desi twist to this Italian dish, &TV artists and pizza lovers share their secret version of their favourite homemade pizzas! These include Shivya Pathania (Devi Parvati, Baal Shiv), Pawan Singh (Zafar Ali Mirza, Aur Bhai Kya Chal Raha Hai?), Aashna Kishore (Kate, Happu Ki Ultan Paltan), Shubhangi Atre (Angoori Bhabi, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai).
Shivya Pathania, aka Devi Parvati from &TV’s Baal Shiv, shares, “I am health-conscious, but I do love my pizza. But I have it with a healthy twist to it. Getting the best of both worlds – health and taste, my cook makes me the most delicious and mouth-watering wheat bread pizza with a ton of veggies and hummus. So that helps with a lot with finding a balance between my pizza craving and maintaining my health.”
Pawan Singh aka Zafar Ali Mirza, &TV’s Aur Bhai Kya Chal Raha Hai? says, “I love everything desi and fusion. My wife loves experimenting with food and has her own desi pani puri pizza, which is made in golgappas but filled with cheese, oregano and chill flakes, and I savour it. It is simply unique, easy and completely desi!”
Aashna Kishore, aka Kate from &TV’s Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, shares, “As a child, my dad and I have been massive pizza lovers. But to make sure we eat healthily and at home, my mother started making pizzas. And over a period, she started experimenting a lot with sauces, veggies and different kinds of toppings and pizza bases to keep it healthy and nutritious. So much so she started baking her pizza base, tangy and spicy homemade sauces with loads of cheese. Now homemade pizzas are a part of our weekend specials at home, and we all enjoy baking and learning different types of pizzas.”
Shubhangi Atre, Angoori Bhabi from &TV’s Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, adds, “Everyone loves pizzas! But it is also important to eat healthy and wholesome meals. So homemade pizza is my go-to cheat meal. Instead of wheat base or bread, I make it on paratha with ghee, a kind of tava-pizza, top it with tons of mozzarella cheese, herbs, cherry tomatoes and a whole lot of veggies. I also use healthier roti options as a base and bake my pizza with wholesome and nutritional toppings.”
