Sarees hold a remarkable position as elegant and fashionable attire for various occasions. When it comes to fashion, people often admire their beloved characters and strive to emulate their style. &TV’s female protagonists have played a significant role in popularizing the saree trend on Indian television. These include Neha Joshi (Yashoda, Doosri Maa), Kamna Pathak (Rajesh, Happu Ki Ultan Paltan), and Shubhangi Atre (Angoori Bhabi, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai). Neha Joshi, essaying Yashoda in &TV’s show Doosri Maa, shares, “I’m captivated by my character Yashodha, who embodies strength and simplicity. Yet, it’s her appearance on the show that truly captivates me. The sarees she adorns play a vital role in shaping her overall appeal. Set against the backdrop of Uttar Pradesh, Yashodha not only fulfils her roles as a devoted mother and exemplary daughter-in-law and as a compassionate social worker. The creative team has impeccably crafted her saree collection to perfectly complement these diverse roles. You’ll often find Yashoda, my character, gracefully donning plain cotton sarees with broad borders in soothing pastel hues. These classic cotton sarees, adorned with elegant prints on blouse, harmonize flawlessly with her persona. The way Yashoda drapes her saree and carries herself is a testament to her character’s essence. In my own life, I find a reflection of Yashoda’s style. I possess a splendid collection of cotton sarees that I adore wearing for gatherings, parties, formal occasions, and traditional ceremonies. A saree is a powerful statement of style, effortlessly combining modesty and boldness. For me, it remains the epitome of elegance and self-expression.”
Kamna Pathak, aka Rajesh from Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, shares, “The show truly elevates Rajesh’s character through the stunning selection of sarees she flaunts. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Kanpur, her wardrobe boasts sarees adorned with exquisite traditional work. Rajesh’s style preference leans toward Desi sarees, but she adds a twist by pairing them with fascinating prints. It’s a sight to behold as R effortlessly slays into her filmy avatar, leaving everyone in awe. Her sarees exude sass and amplify her beauty with each ensemble she adorns. Personally, sarees hold a special place in my heart. My love for them blossomed at a young age, and as I ventured into the world of travel, I couldn’t resist collecting authentic traditional drapes from the cities I visited. As time went by, my saree collection grew, prompting me to create a dedicated space to store these treasures. While some may find wearing a saree daily, especially during shoots, daunting, it is a therapeutic experience that brings me immense joy.” Shubhangi Atre, aka Angoori Bhabi from Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai, shares, “When it comes to saree styles, both Angoori and Shubhangi are the ultimate masters (laughs). Angoori’s character on the show is an absolute fashion icon, draped in a mesmerizing variety of sarees and fearlessly experimenting with every style imaginable. Her dressing is a realm where boundaries don’t exist; there’s no style she hasn’t conquered. She adores adorning herself and fearlessly dives into every fashion trend. Her exquisite two-piece combo of a lehenga and choli saree is one simple look to die for, beautifully paired with a dupatta. Angoori’s styling often blends a desi touch with a hint of the videshi, creating a fusion that’s uniquely her own. Her impeccable individualism and elegance in showcasing her style statement always grab attention whenever she graces the screen. Coming from Indore, I’m filled with immense joy when my friends and relatives share stories of their shopping adventures, asking shopkeepers to show them sarees in “Angoori-style” whenever I visit my hometown. It’s a testament to the impact Angoori’s fashion choices have made on the hearts and minds of people. For Angoori and me, wearing a saree ignites our feminine side, adding an undeniable touch of glamour that never grows repetitive. It’s an unbeatable combination that stands out and leaves an indelible impression.”
